The Story

Vasco Núnez de Balboa was a Spanish explorer, governor and conqueror. He crossed Panama from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean in 1513, becoming the first European to see and reach the Pacific Ocean. The term “Espero” in old Spanish slang means “hope” and it is this hope to discover new was the driving force Vasco Núnez de Balboa to travel to the New World.

He traveled to the New World and, after some exploration, settled on the island of Hispaniola (now the Dominican Republic) in 1500. In 1510 he founded the settlement of Santa María la Antigua del Darién in what is now Panama, which was the first permanent European settlement on the American mainland.

Ron Espero Ultimo

The Ultimo is a blended rum with the best that Ron Espero has to offer. As with the Espero XO, we blend 15 different solera and vintage rums from the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad. This unique blend is aged for 8 months in ex-Cognac casks.

Ron Espero Último consists of a selection of the finest, very old Dominican rums aged for at least 14 to 20 years using the solera method, and very rare single barrel rums from Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana, aged between 9 and 18 years. This exclusive selection of rums is aged for another 8 months in ex-cognac barrels so that the different flavors blend and create an incomparable rum.
