Angostura Rum – Caribbean Icon from Trinidad
Hardly any brand embodies the rum history of the Caribbean as strongly as Angostura. Originally founded in 1824 in Venezuela, it all began not with rum, but with the world-famous Angostura Aromatic Bitters. Physician Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert developed this herbal recipe for medicinal purposes – thereby laying the foundation for a spirits legend.
Following political unrest, the Siegert family relocated their company headquarters to Trinidad & Tobago, where rum production soon began as well. Since then, Angostura has grown into one of the region's most significant producers and continues to shape the rum style of Trinidad to this day.
What makes Angostura special is its own production from the ground up: from fermenting the molasses to distillation in continuous column stills and aging in carefully selected oak casks. As a result, the rums retain their characteristic style: elegant, smooth, balanced, and shaped by tropical aging.
The range extends from the young, light Angostura Reserva and aged classics like the 5 Year Old and 7 Year Old to exquisite premium bottlings like 1824, 1919, and 1787, which are named after historical milestones of the brand. These premium rums delight with notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruits, and spicy oak – perfect for sipping neat.
Today, Angostura is a flagship for Trinidad and world-renowned – not only for its bitters, but also for a rum production that unites tradition and quality in every glass.
